The record lake trout also known as a Mackinaw weighed nearly 4 pounds more than the previous record lake trout caught in 2003 that weighed 46 pounds 14 ounces and measured 42 12 inches long. Having caught great lakes steelhead in the 28 range I knew this fish was probably 20 pounds and most likely a state record. After fishing for an hour or so and observing this gigantic fish I decided to reach down to see if the fish would respond.
There are records of these fish reaching over 100 pounds with the rod and reel record was caught at 72 pounds. The fish was not even stocked into the lake it was actually placed in a bag next to the lake. The world record holder was a 236 kg 52 pound leviathan taken from Jewel Lake near Greenwood BC in the 1930s.
Rainbow trout have the typical streamlined salmonid form although body shape and coloration vary widely. The trout weighs 16 pounds 8 ounces. 56 rows TROUT.
